Skin Remodeling DIY: An Introduction to the Underground World of Do-It-Yourself Skin Care
Author: Deborah Tosline
Hi! Thank you for checking out the Skin Remodeling DIY website :)
Deborah Tosline’s education and work experience is in science, where hypotheses are tested through observation and experiment. She has Bachelor of Science degrees in geology and in ecology. Her approach to skin care is based on that scientific background and a love of research. Deborah has studied and practiced DIY skin care for over four decades. She integrates skin rejuvenation into a lifelong healthy lifestyle and believes that integrative holistic health includes personal health, social well-being and environmental care. In 2025, Deborah became a certified Integrative Wellness Coach certified by the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona.
Deborah wrote the book Skin Remodeling DIY after decades of personally practicing Do-It-Yourself skin care methods. In Deborah’s twenties she used mashed avocado, plain yogurt, or honey for facials that she wore while she cleaned and studied. With time, Deborah’s facial masks evolved to include health food store purchases such as brewers yeast, vitamins and anti-oxidants that were added to her store bought skin creams. With the advent of the internet, more complex skin care ingredients and tools became available and drastically changed the face of DIY skin care :) Advanced skin care includes use of cosmetic dermatology and cosmeceuticals.
Deborah began to implement advanced home skin care as soon as she found it on the internet in about 2001 and after using it, the quality of her skin dramatically improved. Advanced home skin care routines can greatly reduce or may even eliminate hyperpigmentation. DIY skin care enthusiasts share their experiences, research, opinions, and advise on internet skin care forums but these topics are rarely presented in depth in the media. When folks asked Deborah about her skin care routine, they typically had never heard of the skin care methods that she used. This compelled Deborah to write Skin Remodeling DIY.
The Skin Remodeling DIY book contains information on topics that are commonly discussed on internet skin care forums. The text and illustrations are based on research that is published in medical journals and other references.
A healthy lifestyle contributes greatly to skin quality and because of this, the book includes Deborah’s opinions and anecdotal experience regarding what she considers to be a healthy lifestyle. Deborah is not a certified nutritionist or exercise physiologist, however, Deborah is an avid reader and she researched these topics over the past four decades to develop her personal program for healthy living. Deborah shares that, “In describing my lifestyle, I have no intent to shame others or to brag on myself. We all chose our lifestyles for various reasons. Early on, I recognized that I needed to pursue a healthy lifestyle to ensure that I could care for myself and my daughter and meet my responsibilities throughout my life. My healthy lifestyle habits began in my twenties, I am currently 66, the book photos were taken when I was 54.”
